Is the worst behind us and better times ahead? Last year was marked by drought and skyrocketing grain and feed prices. The climate-related global food security issues of 2012 may have been influenced by drought pressures and underwater volcanic activity; knowledge of these types of events could make it possible to obtain advanced warning of developing drought conditions in the future. New developments in gluten-free ingredients, including the most interesting ingredient of all—water—and looking at bioethanol and its impact on the food value of corn provide food for thought on trends predicted for the coming year.
