Third-party audits are a fact of life in the food industry. Buyers, whether they are grocery chains, food manufacturers, or ingredient producers, expect that their suppliers will be audited by a reputable third party and that they will complete this audit successfully. The type of audit required depends on a number of factors, including customer demands and company goals. Companies must make a commitment to these audits not only to meet customer demands but to enhance the safety and quality of their products. Ideally, these audits should serve as a means for continual improvement of food safety management systems and help ensure product safety.
