Investing in Cereal and Grain Science and Supporting Research

The aim of the Cereals & Grains Association Research Council is to fund scientific projects related to the cereals and grains industries. The Council will solicit project proposals that focus on developing grain science advancements that result in new research advancements, methods, publications, presentations, etc., to benefit the Cereals & Grains Association’s membership at large.


Research of particular interest might include:

  • Methodologies for non-wheat for applicability in breadmaking/baking
  • Non-allergenic gluten replacement/alternative market
  • Upcycling grain materials and quality
  • Regenerative agriculture grain quality
  • Rapid methods for existing wet chemistry methods
  • Process innovations for unlocking functionality
  • Nutrition topics that could include everything from microbiome or gut-brain access through ingredient constituent parts of grains impact on biology
  • Sensory aspects of grain products

Project awards range from $5,000 ​to $25,000. Grant awards cover one year of funding. If additional funding is requested beyond a one-year duration, a new proposal must be submitted and will be evaluated by the Cereals & Grains Association Research Council.


Join the 2022-23 Cereals & Grains Association Research Council

The Cereals & Grains Association Research Council is composed of members from the Cereals & Grains Association Board of Directors and members of companies providing supporting funding. The group is led by the Cereals & Grains Association President and Research Council Chair,​ Deirdre Ortiz, and Nicole Rees, AB Mauri.


We invite your organization to support scientific excellence in cereals and grains science and join the Cereals & Grains Association Research Council to help support project grants.


Sponsor Levels

  • Sponsorships of $1,000–$4,999 will be a non-voting member of the Council and will have access to view the proposals and receive updates submitted from the funded submissions before the general membership.
  • Sponsorships of $5,000 and above will participate in reviewing submitted research proposals and be accorded one (1) vote in the funding decisions.
  • All sponsors of the Research Council will receive access to the funded research results.
