Early History of the Section
Membership
Membership in Cereals & Grains Association at the local section level presents numerous opportunities for growth and involvement in the cereal processing field. Section meetings provide the perfect setting to become acquainted with others of similar technical interests. Members can add the Cincinnati Section when they join or renew their Cereals & Grains Association membership.
Best Student Poster Awards
Three cash awards will be awarded to students with best posters related to Eastern Soft Wheat at the Annual Meeting each year. Students must apply for the award when they submit their abstracts. Members from the Cincinnati Section will judge the posters that fall into this category at the annual meeting. The three cash awards are $500 for first place, $250 for second place, and $100 for third place.
Check Sample Services
The section offers two monthly check sample services:
- The flour check sample includes about 60 collaborators, and offers moisture, protein, ash, pH, falling number, and acid viscosity.
- The cookie check sample includes about 25-30 collaborators, as well.
Accuracy awards are given yearly.
Meetings
The Cincinnati Section meets twice a year. A joint meeting is held each spring at Wooster, Ohio as part of the USDA Soft Wheat Quality Lab's Research Review Conference. A fall meeting is held during the Cereals & Grains Association annual meeting.
